Genny’s passion has always been to share stories that inspire and impact audiences in profound ways. Most recently she was seen in the hit musical On Your Feet! on Broadway directed by Tony winner Jerry Mitchell and written by Oscar winner Alexander Dinelaris. She originated the role of Gloria’s sister Rebecca Fajardo and covered and performed the leading role of Gloria Estefan. Having been a part of the musical from its first table read she had the pleasure to work closely with Gloria and Emilio Estefan, two icons that she admires greatly and who have influenced her music and career since childhood.
Her early career started immediately after graduating AMDA in NYC where she had the privilege to tour nationally and internationally with the hit Broadway musical RENT. She was later cast in the reimagined revival of the show Off-Broadway under the critically acclaimed, original Broadway director Michael Greif.
She appeared as Carla in the 1st national tour of In The Heights and later took over the leading role of Nina Rosario, joining sides with Lin Manuel Miranda as Usnavi to share the show with her roots in Puerto Rico. Performing in Puerto Rico with the first ever Broadway production taken to the island made history and was a dream come true for Padilla.
Genny grew up bi-coastal. She was born in Oakland, California and raised both there and in Columbia, South Carolina. She now calls New York City her home and has been busy in both theater and television alike. She’s been a guest to the likes of Stephen Colbert, The View and Good Morning America.
